In which I play the role of Pollyanna and Rodney King Jr.

Gee whilligers, let's just talk it out! There's no reason we can't all be friends!

This thoughtful piece about liberal condescension from the Atlantic’s Clive Crook (responding to this other thoughtful piece about liberal condescension from the Washington Post) is good reading if you’re stuck indoors because of, say, snow. These few lines in particular seem exactly right to me:

Progressives do hold conservatives and their values too much in contempt. But conservatives return the compliment, going light on the accusation of stupidity and doubling down on the charge of wickedness. When it comes to creating a space for discussion, they are no better.

I wish I had more time to dig into this, but for now: Can’t we all just get along? Or at least, like, give each other benefit of the doubt once in a while?

  1. You’re a naughty, wicked girl to say these words.
