Cute animals! Cute animals! Cute animals!

I know why you come to this website, and it’s to see photos of cute animals. I also know the site has been a real disappointment to you so far. “Why do I keep coming here?” you ask yourself. “Why do I have this bookmarked under ‘cute animals’? I hate this stupid website.”

Well, your weeks of disappointment are over, because I am about to unload a pet cemetery’s worth of animal treasures. First up, the adorable ostriches at left. Don’t you just want to reach out and snuggle them?

IMG_3933I got to feed these sweet, sensitive, disgusting creatures in Buellton, CA, at Ostrich Land (of course). Walk in, hand over $4, and soon — like magic! — you’ll be among the magestic ostriches. And also some slightly less magestic emus.

This experience seemed as good an excuse as any to take a look at some of the other animals I’ve seen on the trip.

Let’s start with some awesome elephant seals I saw in San Simeon on the same day I fed the ostriches. It’s one of the great pleasures of traveling slowly and alone that when I see a sign that says “OSTRICHES” or “SEALS” I can just pull right over without discussion. So, without further ado:

SEALS!:

  1. Oh, brother. Ostriches?? Ostriches aren’t cute, Ruth! They’re just not. Now, relaxed seals are another matter entirely. Thanx for that!! Ha ha Rachel Zoe as stick insect. Keep up the good work.
    xx

  2. This makes it clear that you don’t see a difference between animals you eat and animals you don’t eat.

  3. It’s true. I have animal autism.
